Welcome to the MuSKeteers Team page!
We are participating in the Walk for MG with special representation of "MuSK positive" MG patients!
MuSK is an exceptionally rare anti-body that causes Myasthenia Gravis; present in only 4-8% of MG patients. Patients considered 'MuSK positive' do not respond to traditional treatments. Thus, 'MuSK positive' patients experience uncontrolled and in some cases more severe exacerbations. (See team captain Jess Larkin's page for her personal story)
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Myasthenia Gravis, it is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder for which there is currently no cure. MG causes severe weakness of the voluntary muscles. These muscles include, but are not limited to - facial muscles, muscles of the upper & lower extremities, and respiratory muscles.
The MuSKeteers are excited to be supporting the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) through the MG Walk. MGFA is committed to finding a cure for myasthenia gravis and closely related disorders, improving treatment options, and providing information and support to people with myasthenia gravis through research, education, community programs, and advocacy.
