As you may know, my mother, Lori Whitfield, suffers with Myasthenia Gravis. In March, our team walked in the MG Walk Georgia and thanks to everyone's support of walking and/or donating, Team Lori Whitfield once again raised over $3,000 for MG and my mom was the MG Walk Georgia Hero of the year!!! Since 2013, six walks and a half-marathon later, thanks to your help, in total we have raised over $16,000 for MG in support of my mom. Yet as you know the fight isn't over.
For the 6th consecutive year, I am once again captaining a team for the MG Walk Georgia. The MG Walk Georgia, benefits the MGFA and for 2018 it is Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Brook Run Park, Dunwoody, GA. Check-In begins at 9:00 AM; Walk Ceremony begins at 10:00 AM. Our 2017 team was among the top fundraisers in the state and it would be great to take the #1 spot in 2018!
If you do not know, Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disorder involving the muscles and the nerves that control them. People with MG produce antibodies that block muscle cells from receiving neurotransmitters, causing weakness of the voluntary muscles. This can lead to a variety of symptoms, including difficulty breathing, chewing, climbing stairs, lifting objects, talking, as well as extreme fatigue, facial paralysis, etc.
Money raised has helped us further the mission of the MGFA, and bring hope to all those living with MG. Your participation in the MG Walk over the years has made it possible to launch new support groups, new programs that connect the MG Community, educate and raise awareness in the general public and medical communities, support new research initiatives for better treatments, and so much more.
Together We Can Make A Difference! Thank you!
