Gavin Brown

Georgia | Gavin and the Sparkling Synapses

Early in my training to become a neurologist, I became intrigued by myasthenia.  No two myasthenic patients were exactly alike, and I found it fascinating that the same disease could take such a variety of different forms.  Myasthenia quickly became my greatest interest within the field of neurology.

Over my years in practice, I have had the privilege to treat a large number of patients with myasthenia.  I have gotten to know many of them quite well.  I have met their families, learned about their goals and dreams in life, and befriended them.  I listen to their struggles and frustrations, always understanding that I cannot truly know what it means to carry this weight every day.  I try to provide encouragement and support so that they do not lose hope.  What I have learned is that the best management outcomes for myasthenia occur when there is open communication and a trusting partnership between doctor and patient.

I have been involved with the MG Walk for 5 years.  Each year, I am honored to walk alongside the patients and family members of this community.  I have seen Atlanta’s local MGFA group grow into a vital support network for myasthenic patients all across Georgia. The members of this group foster hope and resilience among patients struggling with MG, and their dedication to others inspires me. The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) sponsors a large network of similar support groups across the United States. MGFA fights myasthenia on many different fronts, including research funding, educational programs, online resources, community outreach, and many types of patient advocacy. I am proud to be associated with such a remarkable organization.

This year, I have the honor to serve as the National Ambassador for the 2018 MG Walk. In turn, I have redoubled my own efforts to promote awareness of the services that MGFA provides, and I am thrilled by the tremendous support that I have already seen from the medical community, family, and friends.

Please come walk in support of this important cause with me, OR make a pledge to help me reach my goal!
