Jerry Friedman’s father lived with symptoms such as muscle weakness for most of his life but wasn’t properly diagnosed with MG until he was in his late sixties. A few years later Jerry’s good friend Evan Greene was also diagnosed with MG. Having two people in his life with the same rare disease was such a strange coincidence, Jerry knew he needed to get involved with finding a cure.
Since that time our Greater LA Walk Hero has become a true champion for raising MG awareness and research funds. Jerry’s fundraising success has grown every year. Last year alone, Jerry raised $8,510 for the 6th Annual MG Walk and, most importantly, for the MG community!
This year he wants to focus on growing the MG walk and inspiring people to share their stories. In his words, “Miracles happen when people start to share their experience with the disease.” His goal is to double the number of participants in the Greater LA MG Walk through networking with professionals in different industries and online initiatives.
His biggest piece of advice to everyone out there raising money for the MG Walk is JUST ASK! “If you don’t ask, you don’t receive. Share your story and let’s make people aware of MG. We have to get past being embarrassed or afraid to ask for money because the more funding we get, the more research and advancements can happen.”
