Thank you for visiting my "MG Walk" personal fundraising page!
I am excited to be supporting the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) through the MG Walk. The MGFA is the only national volunteer health agency in the United States dedicated solely to the fight against myasthenia gravis.
My mother was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in February of this year. She had symptoms prior to this but it went not diagnosed for 9 months. Her eyelids were drooping and she had an eye surgery to correct it but it never made it any better. Then she started having speech impairments and then difficulty swallowing. She has been hospitalized 3 times so far for this condition. The last time has been for 2 weeks and she is currently in rehab at this time. She has to learn an entirely new way of eating and swallowing so she does not aspirate. There is no cure for this disease. There is only symptom control. Unfortunately, not many people know about this disease and this is why I find if very important to do this walk and raise money and awareness for this disease.
My mother is an amazing person and this is really difficult for her but she is determined to live a normal life .
MGFA is committed to finding a cure for myasthenia gravis and closely related disorders, improving treatment options, and providing information and support to people with myasthenia gravis through research, education, community programs, and advocacy.
Please register to walk with me OR make a pledge to help me reach my goal!
