Thank you for visiting my "MG Walk" personal fundraising page!
I am excited to be supporting the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) through the MG Walk. The MGFA is the only national volunteer health agency in the United States dedicated solely to the fight against myasthenia gravis.
MGFA is committed to finding a cure for myasthenia gravis and closely related disorders, improving treatment options, and providing information and support to people with myasthenia gravis through research, education, community programs, and advocacy.
MG is a disease that took our mother Donna 2 years ago after being miss diagnosed for years. During those years she slowly was loosing her ability to do things she loved. She could no longer go work in her yard or her garden that she loved so. She no longer had the strength to go and do much of anything for long periods of time due to getting weak and having a hard time breathing. Over time she began to have hard time eating solid food and still no diagnosis. After going to hospital with another issue and being giving a shot of morphine for pain, she crashed. MG came on full strength, taking her ability to breath on her own and the ablity to swallow. She spent 4 weeks in the ICU. After three weeks they were doing random tests to still figure out what was wrong. A Neurologist came it to let her know that she had not had a stroke and looked over her charts and chatted with her a while and FINALLY a diagnosis. He told us she had Myasthinia Gravis. They immediately started to treat her for MG. By this time she had grown so weak that she could no longer fight and was not able to breath on her own. She lost her fight a week later.
